Marriage Advice:
Why do Japanese girls cover their mouths when they laugh?
I’ve noticed Chinese, Taiwanese, and Korean girls also do this, but it seems more common among the Japanese.
My history teacher said because exposing your teeth is considered rude? therefore they cover their mouths to hide their teeth when they laugh??? …and now its become an unsubconscious reaction?
I don’t cover my mouth even when I laugh out loud. Older women may do that, but at least people I know don’t do that. I had some Korean friends in school, and they all did that. It was a little strange sight to me when I first saw them do that, but I think it’s actually a very ladylike manner 
Japanese girls are losing it these days.
Oh, and also, this has nothing to do with history again but it may partly be because teeth-straightening is becoming more common (but it’s still verrrry expensive – around ten thousand dollars) in Japan today, and more people are confident about their smiles and teeths.
