There are no New Testament references to modern day Iraq in the Bible, other than future prophecy. That is, nothing has happened in Iraq since Christ. In the future we know that Babylon will become the most important city in the world again, as it was back in the days of Nebuchadnezzer. The antichrist will setup his one-world government there as well as his one-world religion there. It will again be an evil and wicked city as it was previously.

That has all yet to happen of course. But Saddam Hussein did start to rebuild Babylon, which is only 51 miles south of Baghdad. It isn’t unreasonable to believe that after the war in Iraq is over that the world will have sympathy for Iraq and will then approve the move of the United Nations to Iraq, probably Babylon. Especially since the United States will be seen as the aggressor and taking the UN from the US to Iraq would seem like a possible “punishment” that the world issues to the US.
