Marrying a Belarusian women in the UK?

I’m in a 2 year relationship and now engaged to a Belarusian girl. I have been to Minsk 3 times, she to England twice, we have photos SKYPE and phone records historical visas and we have met each other’s family. She would like to marry in Minsk but I believe it would be better in the UK for her to remain – we just want to be together, Has anyone been there/done this.? any advice welcome on the fastest process to satisfy immigration rules?

I am an immigration lawyer based in London. I would be happy to answer your question. I have assumed she is here in UK now, if I have got that wrong let me know.

You have both options, apply in the UK or outside. But bear in mind that if you want it run smoothly in the UK she would need to be on some form of UK visa other than a tourist visa. If she is here on something more concrete (eg a student visa) then it is a smooth process for her to remain here.

Otherwise, its best to apply from Minsk.

As for the place of marriage, a number of choices:

(1) You can marry in the UK after she comes here on a fiancee visa.
(2) You can marry in Minsk and she can return on a marriage visa.
(3) If she is here, you can apply for permission to have registry marriage and then marry here.

All of these have options with pros and cons – but as long as you have evidence of the relationship (it sounds like you do) and you are in full time work (you don’t mention this) then there is no reason why you can’t be here together.

Using all of these routes, she will get a 2 year visa first, then after that, indefinite stay and a british passport a year after that.

You mention the fastest route. Minsk publishes its figures online. Last month they undertook 7 settlement marriage visas and did just over half in 15 days and the rest in 30 days.

So not too much of a delay.
